Directors of the Equitable Life Assurance Society in New York accepted the resignation of former president James W. Alexander after a two hour meeting today. Paul Morton was elected president, with the chairmanship also likely retained.
Mayor Dunne appoints Captain John M Collins as chief of police succeeding Francis Connel who resigned recently. Collins rose from patrolman ranks and served on the force during the Haymarket Square bombing incident years ago.
In London July 26 the shooting case involving J S and H C Phipps sons of Henry Phipps of Pittsburg was raised again in the House of Commons. Weir urged the Scottish advocate to stop their flight, noting one son may be in Paris. They were charged in Kinness with reckless discharge on Beaufort estate Highlands of Scotland, jailed then released on 25000 bail each.
San Diego July 26 another death among the injured of the Bennington's crew occurred as the investigation led by Commander Young and Lieutenants Yates and Wade concluded. Sheep receipts 18,000 with wethers 4.10 to 5.10, mixed 4 to 4.65, western sheep 4 to 4.70, native lambs 5 to 7, western lambs 5.50 to 6.85.
