Youngsters Display Livestock at Chaves County Fair
The Chaves County 4 H and FFA Fair underway at the Eastern New Mexico State Fairgrounds with youth showing goats pigs poultry and calves in hopes of awards and auction proceeds. Today features Breeding Sheep and Market Lambs at 8 a.m Poultry Showmanship and Judging at 2 p.m and the Dairy Heifer Show at 5 30 p.m. Thursday includes Heifer Show and Steer Show at 8 a.m Wool Lead and Fashion Extravaganza at 4 p.m and awards at 6 p.m. The Junior Livestock Show starts at 7 a.m Friday and animals are released Saturday.

California man pleads not guilty in Roswell chase crash
Pedro Jose Prieto 53 of Atwater California faced 12 counts after a high speed Roswell chase that damaged vehicles. Prieto pleaded not guilty at Monday arraignment with charges including aggravated assault with deadly weapon and leaving the scene. Jury trial set for February 18 before District Judge James Hudson.

Dexter teen killed in crash on US 285
A two vehicle crash at the intersection of U S 285 and East Darby Road Sunday evening left Angela Andrews an 18 year old Dexter resident dead and a 16 year old passenger injured. An 82 year old man a 33 year old woman and a 5 year old boy in the second vehicle were hospitalized with unknown conditions. The women were in a 2006 Pontiac Solstice that reportedly stopped for a stop sign before the collision.
