Police seek the driver of a white Chevrolet van that struck a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle rider Ross Hensel in Roswell at about 9 p.m. Tuesday near North Main Street and East Berrendo Road and fled. The incident sent a Ruidoso Downs woman to the hospital.
Police reviewed video at a Valero station to locate a van owner while seeking tips. Laura R Collins 44 of Ruidoso Downs was treated after an assault on Beech Avenue. A juvenile citation was issued in the airsoft gun case. Arrests included William Townsend 48 for drug paraphernalia and Devette Archuleta 34 for paraphernalia possession. A hot water heater theft and a stolen handgun were noted.
The Roswell Chamber of Commerce invites applications for Leadership Roswell Class of 2015 with a deadline of 5 p.m. on Thursday July 31. Classes meet one Friday monthly from September to May. Dawn Tschabrun, CEO of Lovelace Regional Hospital Roswell, is elected to Quality New Mexico board for a three year term starting June 2014. She will collaborate with leaders from business education government health care and nonprofit sectors to advance the group's performance excellence programs across the state. Tschabrun has led Lovelace Regional Hospital Roswell since 2009.
Governor Rick Perry announced a Texas National Guard deployment to the Rio Grande border citing federal inaction. The move, costing an estimated 12 million dollars per month, aims to deter illegal activity and refer crossers to authorities while noting limited power under the Posse Comitatus Act.
