Olivia Newton-John was guest of honor and grand marshal as Olivia Minnesota, a town of 3,200 about 100 miles west of Minneapolis, marked its 100th birthday. She thanked locals for popularizing the name Olivia and said the letter inviting her was a kick.
Miss Lillian Carter praises the pope during a visit to Castel Gandolfo in Italy as part of her mother's official duties and public appearances.

Mikhail Baryshnikov boosted the New York City Ballet to a record attendance of 90,500 over a three week summer run at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. Officials said virtually every performance sold out and noted Baryshnikov’s July 8 debut in Copelia.
