Accident Victim Taken Off Critical List at Walker

A-3c Jose Diaz Vergara, 20, was removed from the critical list but remains seriously ill at Walker Base hospital after a late Saturday automobile crash. Socorro Bay Tragedy: Boy Drowns in Drainage Canal

Marvin Ray Smith, 13, of Socorro, drowned near a drainage canal 45 miles south of Socorro while his 12-year-old playmate was rescued after they fell in. Archie R. Smith heard screams, pulled the girl from the water, then learned his son had vanished. The body was recovered about 15 minutes later in eight feet of water. revival attempts failed. Sheriff Lee Garner said the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m.

Quake Devastates Anjar Area in Western India

A powerful earthquake struck the Anjar coast and surrounding towns in western India, killing at least 117 and leaving about 800 missing.
