Chicago reports a renewed packing house strike ordered by President Donnelly with thousands walking out across major cities. Rioting occurs in Armourdale and St. Louis amid clashes with strikebreakers while unions plan sympathetic action and officials debate reemployment terms.
In the District Court of Chaves County Territory of New Mexico plaintiffs E L Wildy and C J Bowman sue Glover B T and Glover Lulu M for 2318 dollars plus 12 percent interest from 1903 and protest fees. The attached Lot 3 Fairview is set for sale to satisfy judgment unless appearance is entered by September 10, 1964. The case is Richardson Reid and Hervey for the plaintiff.
Dispatches report Japanese General Kuroki's forces occupying Kiao Tung after hard fighting on July 19. Russian accounts claim heavy casualties for the Japanese, while Russian troops retreat from Liao Yang area. Malacca cargo dispute and international reactions also feature in the day’s tallies.
New Westminster British Columbia prepares for the formal opening of the Fraser River steel bridge tomorrow. A gold spike will be driven with a silver hammer by Sir Henry Joly de Lotbiniere, with Governor McBride and guests from across the border in attendance. The $1,000,000 span will allow American railways direct entry into Vancouver and New Westminster.

Livestock markets in Kansas City show cattle prices ranging from native steers at 4.25 to 6.25 and southern cows from 1.75 to 3.50. Stockers and feeders bring 2.50 to 4.50, calves 2.50 to 5.00, western steers up to 6.00, and sheep with muttons 3.25 to 4.55 and lambs 4.00 to 6.00.
London reports the death of Wilson Barrett the actor this morning following an operation for cancer on July 20.
Officials of the Indian bureau in New Mexico finish a census showing the Pueblo population north and west of Albuquerque will total under 3700. The decline indicates tribes slowly passing away with Laguna Pueblo the only one showing a population increase.
Day J. W. Sansom has sold his residence and will leave for San Antonio with Mrs. Sansom on Saturday or Monday. Their daughter Elizabeth J. Sansom resides there. Captain Sansom is a long time Roswell resident esteemed by many. He plans to return and make Roswell his home again in the future. He leaves with the town’s regret after decades in the community.
In Indianapolis on July 22 Silas C. Swallow of Pennsylvania and George W. Carroll of Texas were formally notified of their nomination as Prohibition presidential and vice presidential candidates before a crowded audience. Oliver W. Stewart chaired the national committee meeting and A. G. Wolfenbarger spoke.
Ha german and Roswell contest a baseball game on Military Heights as this edition goes to press. The score and final outcome are not yet reported.

A general strike spread through Pfaff system hotels and dining rooms in Alamogordo Cloudcroft Carrizozo and nearby towns after the dismissal of O W Everett Cloudcroft manager by the Pfaff company. Dining room girls managers and other staff refused to work in protest.
John H. Pinnell of the National Bank of Commerce Kansas City purchased thirty two high grade thoroughbred bulls from W. M. Atkinson Milne-Bush ranch to be shipped to Sierra Blanca Texas. The herd will be driven to Old Mexico for use on a bank interest ranch.
An appeal for Alfred A. Knapp the Hamilton strangler awaits before the Ohio State Board of Pardons. His lawyer Thomas Darby presented the appeal in Columbus on July 22 as a commutation of sentence is considered.

No concert tonight as the band will be out on Sunday afternoon as usual. The brief notice confirms the disruption of the usual program and indicates a schedule shift for the group.
Mrs Milo D Warfle conducts a meeting of the Seventh Day Adventists in Alamogordo. She formerly lived in Roswell and is the wife of a well known Adventist minister. Nearby guests include Mr and Mrs J M Murphy and daughter Lillie and Mrs Mary Bass of Gonzales Texas visiting the Whites Hodges.
Hon J. A. Mahoney of Deming a member of the Territorial Board of Equalization and Chairman W. M. Atkinson of the Board of County Commissioners inspect records this morning and plan to return tomorrow morning Trav eling Auditor C. V. Stafford of Santa Fe is expected here tomorrow.
