GE posts 16 percent drop in second-quarter earnings
General Electric reports net income of $3.11 billion or 29 cents per share for April through June, down from $3.69 billion a year earlier. Revenue rose to $36.5 billion as energy infrastructure and GE Capital posted gains, while wind turbine shipments doubled from the year-ago quarter.

Fender Musical Instruments Corp, famed for guitars used by Buddy Holly and Jimi Hendrix, dropped its plans for an initial public offering.
