Alligator egg hunts fuel Florida farms and jobs
In the Everglades biologist Lindsey Hord helps harvest up to 40 000 eggs for 30 farmers as part of Florida Wildlife Commission efforts. Eggs are marked and stored to prevent embryo loss, supporting a $100 000 per farm potential and a multi‑million industry. The program, begun in 1988, aids gator numbers and supplies hides and meat to markets, with Allen Register’s Gatorama example in Palmdale housing 3 000 gators and slaughters of about 1 000 yearly.
