RCCEDC honors Best of Chaves County at gala
About two dozen area businesses were named Best of Chaves County by RCCEDC at a luncheon and awards presentation drawing 360 attendees at the Roswell Convention Center. Fred Telling of Reno Air Racing Association delivered the keynote with updates.

Suspected abduction and sex crimes lead to high speed chase
Albert Johnny Mondragon Jr. 48 of Roswell faces charges including aggravated fleeing, resisting an officer, and multiple counts of criminal sexual contact and penetration of a minor, plus kidnapping, tied to a 2023 rape series. The chase reached over 100 mph over 11 miles and ended in a crash. A detention hearing is sought by District Attorney Hunter Spindle.

Lawmakers end special session with no action on crime bills
The New Mexico House and Senate adjourned without acting on crime bills after Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham called a special session. House approved H B 1 funding legislative costs and relief for Lincoln County fires, sending it to the Senate Appropriations Committee, while the Senate debated and then passed H R 1 before adjourning sine die.
