Arrest in Roswell Under New Liquor Ordinance
The first arrest for alleged bootlegging under Roswell's new liquor prohibition ordinance occurred this morning. James R. Hardeman was arrested by City Marshal Roy Wooster and charged with selling a half pint of whiskey to Bob Russell at the Russell blacksmith shop. His hearing was set for 2:00 PM and continued to 9:00 AM the next day. Bond was fixed at 109 dollars with H. Diven and Jord Stonehouse-Armstrong as security. Russell's two young daughters are principal witnesses. Hardeman, a long-time Roswell resident, was previously a trapper and hunter.

Airship gas works explode injuring nine in Germany
In Friedrichshafen on July 9 the Zeppelin airship company gas works exploded causing nine injuries and several in critical condition. A gasometer burst and nearby rooms were blown far away with cottages in the vicinity left in ruins and the blast heard for miles. The cause remains under investigation.
