Officials discuss Triassic Park hazardous waste site proposal
City and county officials along with two state legislators joined about 130 residents at a public information meeting in eastern New Mexico to hear Gandy Marley Inc plans for Triassic Park a hazardous waste treatment storage and disposal facility on a 480 acre site 43 miles east of Roswell two miles south of US 380. The session led by New Mexico Environment Department officials covered project overview permit process and environmental monitoring as part of three meetings to inform the public.

Clovis teen extradited to face murder charge
A 16 year old Clovis boy was returned from Texas after an extradition hearing to face first degree murder charges for the July 5 killing of Norma Young 41 in her Clovis home. Young's son Jeremiah found her body as police pursued leads after a high speed chase.

Training Exercise for New Mexico National Guard Unit
The First Battalion 200th Air Defense Artillery, based in southeast New Mexico, conducted annual training from July 7 to July 21. B Battery in Carlsbad with a detachment in Artesia carried out two days of survival tactics and land navigation near Bitter Lakes and the Capitan Mountains, led by First Sgt. Wade, with five teams practicing day and night navigation on BLM land.
