Nurse Survivor Sees Speck as Court Arraignment Delayed

Chicago AP reports nurse Corazona Amurao survivor of the dormitory killings visited the jail hospital where Richard Speck is treated for self-inflicted wounds. Bombers Hit Key Oil Depot in North Vietnam

Fifteen waves of American bombers attacked a major oil depot in North Vietnam creating 35 fires and 51 explosions, U S Air Force jets targeting the Baden storage complex 20 miles northwest of Dong Hoi while others hit a nearby facility. In South Vietnam the joint Marine-South Vietnamese offensive against about 2 000 enemy forces slowed with fewer clashes.

Demos Back WAFB Plan At State Platform Convention

A resolution backing a vocational technical and health service training school at Walker Air Force Base was approved at the Democratic Party State Platform Convention in Albuquerque. The plan promises savings of over 20 million and supports educating about 2,000 new students yearly at 6 million dollars in costs. The need stems from travel distances limiting access to education. North Vietnamese forces eight miles south of the DMZ conducted probing attacks today. US HQ reports two small-scale actions with 13 Marines killed in the operation and B52 bombers striking the area. Maj. Gen. Wood B. Kyle says the Marines may stay for days or weeks. No other large-scale fighting reported. Fatherland Front urges more support after Ho Chi Minh's mobilization decree.

Ranchmen's Camp Meeting Slated Nogal Mesa Camp Near Capitan

The 26th annual Nogal Mesa Ranch men's Camp Meeting opens with a chuckwagon dinner and a cowboy styled religious service at the tabernacle. Preachers George Jackson of Indianapolis and Roy Ford of Lubbock join leaders. Paul Biggs of Philips will lead singing. About 1,500 attend at peak. 28 beef quarters served over five days near Nogal Lake, 10 miles west of Capitan on U.S. 380. Chuck wagon meals occur three times daily.

Sharon Birkenbuel of Albuquerque, a 20 year old drama major at the University of New Mexico, won the Miss New Mexico title in Hobbs. The 5 foot 5 brunette aims to be a Broadway actress and has performed in Ouray Colorado summer stock and Roswell Little Theater and Rodey Theater productions.

Enormous space balloon launches in New Mexico tests

An 815 foot tall balloon departed Holoman Air Force Base in Alamogordo for a 6 to 7 hour flight in a Desert test. It carries 26 million cubic feet of helium and aims for 130000 feet to support Voyager spacecraft tests for unmanned Mars landings. Later flights will carry 1700 pound Voyager vehicles for deceleration and parachute tests with an initial test at Walker AFB near Roswell around August 15.

Youth survives 11,000-volt train line incident in Paoli

Herbert Johnson, 19, of Malvern, touched an overhead railroad power line on a moving freight train. Four youths pulled him to safety after a dare led him to leap from a box car, then crawled across a highway to reach the scene. He was hospitalized in satisfactory condition after rescuers stopped further contact with the line.

San Patricio Man Killed On Highway
