Indian bureau land resettlement questions discussed with Indian Service officials.
Tacoma July 17 AP tired members of a heavily armed posse were returning home after a failed chase for the Otting bank bandit and killer of Chief Frank Chadwick and Patrolman Harry Storem of the Puyallup police. The search focused on the Stuck River bottom northeast of Sumner Washington after a woman reported a man answering the killer’s description entered a shack and demanded food.
In Washington the House rejected an amendment to the social security bill, ruling that employers should not be exempt from taxes for old age pensions despite operating their own annuity plans. In San Antonio a nationwide search centered on a suspect connected to the murder of four Illinois tourists in New Mexico, with police coordinating moves between Gonzales, San Antonio, and El Paso. Sheriff Matthews and officials pursued movements of Dudley McGinnis, while New Mexico officials prepared to adjust teaching texts for New Mexico History and Civics to Bloom and Noes Iy.

Utah paper says Mahan is arrested. Salt Lake City, July 17 AP The Desert News says it has authoritative information that William Mahan alias Dinard, sought for kidnapping George Weyerhaeuser, was arrested in the railroad yards here five days ago and is held here pending the sentencing of Mrs. Margaret Waley in Tacoma today.
In Villa Hermosa Tabasco federal troops patrolled streets as student groups push to oust Tomas Garrido Canabal. Four student bodies were brought to Mexico City for burial after a gun battle with Garrido supporters, while anti Garrido forces bury four followers. Rudolfo Brito Foucher led the expedition with 16 survivors joining in Villa Hermosa and 20 more students expected. The leaders say the campaign will focus on state elections in August amid a tense situation and risk of further outbreaks.
Washington on July 17 wired that the customs bureau asked the works relief administration for finance to build border stations. The Columbus site seeks 17500 dollars for a customs immigration border station in New Mexico, with additional similar sums requested for Fabens and Ysleta border stations in Texas.
