President Eisenhower returned to work at the White House reporting at 8:20 a.m. for his first day since his June 8 intestinal ailment. He met with staff, conferred with AEC Chairman Lewis W. Strauss, and planned a 10:15 a.m. briefing with Secretary of State Dulles. The schedule includes a Panama City meeting with other presidents and participation in an expanded National Security Council session to mark Operation Alert. Doctors caution the convalescence is not complete, and afternoon duties will be lighter while he increases walking routines on the South Grounds.
Otis Chavez, charged with stealing 14 U.S. rifles from the Artesia national guard armory on July 12, waived preliminary and was bound over to the U S District Court in Albuquerque with a $1500 bond.
