Artesia double murder and suicide in drunken quarrel
A quarrel over alleged illicit liquor led Bill Parker to shoot his landlady Mrs. Claire Faley at her Artesia home and then kill himself. Both died instantly. The couple drank heavily, with Parker reportedly upset by Faley's threats to expose his supplier. A coroner's jury later ruled murder and death by own action.

A major blaze at the Joyce-Pru store in Artesia caused damage estimated at 60,000 to merchandise and 1,000 to the adjacent Hardwick Hotel from water and smoke. J H Emerson of Hagerman Dies at 66 in New Mexico
J H Emerson a Pecos Valley ranchman died at his Hagerman home at age 66 after paralysis struck June 29. Born January 12 1868 in Troy Alabama he married Rosa B Harris in 1884. Survived by wife two sons John Hardie Jr and Damon a brother Charles and sisters Mrs J H Porter and Mrs Theodosia Huggins. Burial at Hagerman Cemetery with arrangements pending relatives arrival.
