July 16. The Emperor of Chna fled over the walls of the Forbidden City at night and found refuge at his father's former home. Officials say a plot by palace servants to murder him and loot the palace was uncovered after his punishment of eunuchs tied to thefts during a recent fire. Republican police guard the palace as searches continue for further evidence.
Mexico City July 16 the recognition conference enters its ninth week with hopes for a satisfactory agreement by Saturday. US recognition may come within the year as talks await a report to Secretary of State Hughes. End of week is key as the conference nears its close.
Rev Rudolph Caughey and family departed this morning for a several weeks vacation to Colorado. The notice also promotes Clardy’s Dairy with a phone number for early deliveries and mentions TM litte Leave for Colorado.

Wichita July 16. A conference of farmers from five wheat producing states including Texas met to bolster wheat prices. Called by J T Whitehurst secretary of the Oklahoma board of agriculture. He says production control is key and urges reduced acreage improved seed and intensive cultivation for higher yields per acre.
Miss Dorothy Junor leaves Saturday night for points in Texas visiting friends and relatives. More certificates for sale advertised. Menhardt Studio at 111 West 3rd Street advertises openings and services.
George B. Jewett leaves his cabin on the Ruidoso to spend several days in town handling affairs. E. C. Jackson arrived from Lake Arthur this morning and spent the day on business here.
George Bent left yesterday morning for a short business trip to Santa Fe and other northern state points.
In Dallas on July 16 a hearing on an injunction suit by Preston P. Reynolds and Klan members against De H. W. Evans imperial wizard was postponed to July 30 on Evans' attorneys request who are in Arkansas on legal business. Reynolds seeks to enjoin Evans from office and also demands 100000 dollars in damages.
Eastern colleges conclude a strong season for baseball prospects as top stars opt for other careers rather than major leagues. Owen Carroll of Holy Cross spurns a $10,000 Pirates offer to join the priesthood. Huntzinger signs with the Giants, while several others await trials or join minor or college teams.
In New York July 12, Ross Young the Giants outfielder seems to steer the team's fate with his bat. When he hits the Giants win, when he slumps they falter, underscoring his high influence and the need for wider praise alongside stars like Max Carey. Ed Rommell of the Athletics issued four wide pitches to Babe Ruth, and Wallie Pipp followed with a long hit as the Yankees prevailed.
El Paso Texas July 16 reports the city health department calling El Paso the most healthful city in the country. It cites no contagious diseases among residents per thousand and only 81 contagious cases among about 90 000 people with seven measles five typhoid and four scarlet fever cases.
A jail band on the fifth floor of Fort Worth County Jail forms under leader Janet McDougall with a violin. The group, including several so called professional musicians, performs many selections and claims to be among the state’s best. Their favorite piece is the All House Blues, played with notable skill.
J H Diddley arrives from his Texas home for a short visit with his brother J W Dudley in the city. Dudley and his family are en route to California for a pleasure trip by car.
Abaleno Torres eldest son of Mr and Mrs Juan Torres of this city died Saturday night from injuries after his car struck a dump wagon owned by New Mexico Construction Company at Missouri and Alameda. The wagon tongue pierced the radiator and struck Torres in the stomach causing fatal damage within thirty minutes. Witnesses testified no lights or signals were on the wagon and the coroner's jury found the wagon owners negligent in leaving it in the street. Abaleno had long resided here and was respected by the community.
Funeral services for A B Torres killed in a Saturday night auto accident will be held from St Johns Catholic Church tomorrow morning with Rev Father Casey presiding. Interment will be at South Park. The Roswell Undertaking Company is in charge of arrangements.
Generally fair weather tonight and Tuesday for Roswell and Pecos valley with little temperature change. In New Mexico southern areas likely fair, northern portions may see showers tonight or Tuesday, 10 percent rain chance in 36 hours.
Miss Elizabeth Steale travels by Bonnell boat on the Ruidoso to spend several weeks in Glencoe awaiting a return.

Oklahoma City July 16 A petition for an injunction to restrain Dr E T Bynum counsellor to Governor Walton from taking office as state banking commissioner was filed in district court by lawyers for Joseph H Straw the ousted bank commissioner.
In Dallas on July 13 a fingerprint on an empty bottle during a grocery store robbery led to the arrest and conviction of Ernest Lawson, a former convict. Blaine Dyer, also an escaped convict, implicated Lawson in the murder of special officer J. Cain. Dyer confessed to part in the crime and claimed Lawson killed Cain and another officer earlier. Lawson admitted the Cain killing and sought revenge for being squealed on. Lawson was found guilty after a 40 minute jury deliberation and faced the death penalty. Dyer has not yet been tried.
July 13 Detroit reports an ordinary cow and her month-old calf were the prize exhibits at the Detroit 200. One-thousand seven hundred fifty school children toured honored pens after learning many had never seen a cow. A kindly dairyman donated the pair, named Prides and her calf, to the city.
A July start is planned for a major fishing and bathing resort near Eagle Lake. Coushatta Creek will be dammed to create a lake over fifty acres, backing water six to seven miles. A pavilion bath houses screened cottages and three hundred shade trees will be built along the edge. The lake will be stocked with game fish.
Rice Institute in Houston will hold registration on September 21 and 22. Registrar Samuel G. McCann notes this year’s date is the latest in institute history except 1912. New students register first day, old students second. The annual catalogue outlining courses and matriculation requirements will be issued in August.
Galveston Texas July 16 construction of a new one million dollar 12 story bank and office building on the southwest corner of Twenty Second street and Avenue D is expected to begin within a few days. The Texas Bank and Trust Company finances the project and will occupy the first three floors.
Former Senator Joseph A Bailey will dedicate the new auditorium in Old Settlers' park in Sherman Texas on August 21. The event was announced today and adds a historic note to the park’s facilities with Bailey leading the ceremony.

San Antonio dispatch notes Kelly Field No 2 crews have logged over 30,000 flights since January 1 1923. Total actual flying time exceeds 8 000 hours about a quarter of all army activity excluding major trips. Nearly 800 000 miles were flown in six months with speeds 60 to 100 mph. Four fatalities occurred in eight months from loss of flying speed.

Philadelphia dispatch reports policy and troopers from five states hunting six armed convicts after a bold jail break. The fugitives allegedly stole two automobiles and clothing. a kidnapping victim forced them to flee, and the group reportedly avoided farms with women to avoid frightening them.
