Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett near Pecos ferry tale
The account recalls Billy the Kid joining a river crossing using a hand built ferry on the Pecos near Bosque Grande around 1866. Billy leads the ferrying of cattle and supplies, shares meals, and parts with Aleck Bley and family, then is later killed by Pat Garrett at Fort Sumner about a year afterward. Ken Garrett and others recounted, praising Garrett's steadiness and reflecting on Billy’s complex reputation.
