Secretary Henry A Wallace said the Agricultural Adjustment Act will reach the Supreme Court before next winter and that pending amendments in Congress will strengthen the act. Amsterdam authorities ordered a rigid investigation into a series of Dutch air disasters after a Fokker four motor liner crashed into a dyke near Schiphol, killing six including two English passengers. Thirteen other passengers and one crewman escaped as flames engulfed the aircraft. No Americans were aboard.
Coudcroft New Mexico July 15 AP a campaign to promote friendly feeling among member communities and to make each conscious of its own attractions will be sponsored by the Southern New Mexico Association which completed its organization at a meeting here this weekend Claude Simpson secretary of the Roswell Chamber of Commerce was named president George Frenger president of the Las Cruces chamber and Will ard Holt secretary of Lordsburg chamber were elected vice presidents and Tom Charles of Alamogordo was named secretary treasurer The meeting attended by representatives from Roswell Artesia Carlsbad Cloudcroft Elk Alamogordo Tularosa Mescalero Ruidoso Hatch and Las Cruces adopted resolutions commending the state highway departments advertising campaign and endorsed the Caballo Dam and San Juan diversion project.
Santa Fe July 15 AP The infant New Deal keynote by Fred Nicholas to the Republican State Central Committee of New Mexico is criticized as a black creature with a red hourglass and its offspring the black widows of despotism. Nicholas denounces the Roosevelt veto on the bonus, praises Senator Bronson Cutting, urges level headed judgment to avoid disaster, warns nations other than two fall to despotism, and decries unspent 4.8 billion dollars earmarked for veterans. He accuses the administration of usurping functions and warns of political manipulation.
Tacoma, July 15 AP. Chief of Police Frank Chadwick and officer Harry Store of the Puyallup police department were shot and killed today by a bandit believed by Pierce county officials to be William Mahan, sought for kidnapping nine year old George Weyerhaeuser. Deputies said the description matched Mahan and the bank hold up at Orting resembled his known crimes. Captain Yoris of Seattle police agreed the suspect might be Mahan. Mahan had been linked to the Eatonville Bank hold up two years ago. no arrest has been made.
