Neighbors testify to screams from Crippen cellar as police pursue the American dentist Hawley H Crippen and his typist Lenove in the Belle Elmore murder case awaiting an inquest. Reports say poisoning and quicklime buried remains. Crippen and Lenove sighted in various parts of the country.
A crowded North Beach car carrying a theatrical party crashed into the rear of a Flushing car on the Manhattan approach to the Queensborough bridge. Twenty five persons were injured, none fatally, as passengers were thrown to the floor and the cars severely damaged.

G A Payne returns from Los Angeles with his wife Mae and baby and decides Roswell is the best home. He will work as a driver for Roswell Steam Laundry once it reopens soon after August. The laundry yard in town holds a carload of new machinery and repaired equipment from a recent fire is now in good condition.
A parade formed at the Elk Club and marched to Amusement Park for a Roswell benefit baseball game between professional and real estate and insurance men. The M. W. A. Band and players led a large crowd including substitutes, rooters, fans, and others in attendance.
The Young Men’s Jeffersonian Club met at the city hall with about forty young Democrats in attendance. The discussion covered the constitutional convention the constitution and the approaching campaign with speeches noted as full of interest and energy.

The Southern Pacific Company retires its preferred stock today at New York. Holders may take $115 cash per share, or $20 cash plus $100 in 4% bonds, or swap the preferred for common stock on a one for one basis.
The sidewalk in front of Mrs. A. R. McCain's building was widened to sixteen feet under an ordinance of the former city council. It adjoins E. F. Hardwick's property, whose sidewalk was widened yesterday. Both projects were completed by Cunningham brothers.

Captain Samuel K Lyon of the 25th Infantry was recently tried for irregularities tied to the Brownsville matter and was acquitted by a court martial. General Walter Howe reviewing the case disapproved the finding and stated he believes Lyon knew the ammunition condition and failed to disclose full information in his returns and certificates.
