Pioneer oilman Bill Dooley dies at 81 in Carlsbad

William A. Dooley, a pioneer New Mexico oilman who helped drill the first commercial Artesia oil well in 1924, died in a Carlsbad hospital at age 81. He moved from Michigan to New Mexico in 1905, farming on the Cottonwood River and building Cottonwood Dam.

In Baltimore a 19 year old Gypsy named Stina Gilk was arrested after a claim of a $15 fraud by Mrs Mary McLaughlin.
