In San Francisco on July 13 President Harriman directed the cancellation after this year of all interstate passes issued by the Southern Pacific. The move follows the Interstate Commerce law amendment which bans such passes for interstate travel, though passes within the same state remain allowed.

United States Senator Newlands of Nevada is hospitalized with a broken collar bone after being thrown from a horse near San Mateo. He had a narrow escape from death and is reported in stable condition.
