A massive strike sweeps the Wearing Apparel industry with an estimated fifty thousand workers walking off the job. Labor leaders cite pay, hours, and working conditions as key issues driving the action across multiple plants.
News wires report a nationwide strike by meat packing workers beginning July 12. In Chicago 49,600 employees quit, halting price gains for meat as 12,800 in St Louis and Omaha join. Swift, Armour, Cudahy and others pause operations. cuts include 2,000 meat cutters and 5,000 in St Joseph. Arbitration offered, no meat buying at yards.
The United States and Russia formally promulgated a corporation treaty negotiated by Ambassador McCormick. It provides that American and Russian corporations may sue in the courts of both countries, establishing cross border legal avenues.
The Kansas City council approved a resolution calling a joint conference with Kansas City Kansas officials to craft flood protection laws. If needed, bonds may be issued to cover expenses.

Tomorrow the convention moves to Manchester for sessions headlined by Carroll D. Wright of Washington and Dartmouth College president Tucker.

By order of the War Department Brigadier General Frederick Funston is detached from Colorado and placed in command of the Department of the East. Major General Corbin’s post in the Atlantic division is vacant, General Constant Williams is ordered to take command of the Department of Colorado.
At the depot this morning two ladies rode a bus drawn by horses when the animals bolted toward a passing train. Mrs Rucker leaped to flee but Brakeman Tullis dragged her clear. Mrs D J Young stayed aboard while the driver halted the team moments before the train skimmed the bus, only six inches away.
Esopus reports the return of Wm. F. Sheehan from the St Louis convention as the national Democratic campaign moves to Esopus with fees and strategy. Parker’s friends say he will advise on all questions of importance that may arise.

A cloudburst and flood in Mitchell Wheeler county Oregon last night caused the death of two people and extensive property damage in Portland reported July 12. Rescue efforts followed as authorities assessed the destruction and the extent of the losses.

Chattanooga Tenn July 12 Several score of representative bankers and financiers attended the opening of the thirteenth annual convention of the Georgia Bankers Association at Lookout Mountain. The meeting opened with remarks by President S B Brown of Georgia.
Allentown hosts three to four thousand Christian Endeavor delegates from across the state for a three day convention. Preliminary officer meetings were held today, with the formal opening scheduled for this evening at Salem Reformed Chapel.

In Battle Ground Washington on July 12 the monument to the Civil War battle on that site was unveiled with ceremonies attended by many veterans. The 122nd New York Volunteers erected it, five members of the regiment fell in the fight. Lincoln witnessed the struggle from the nearby site where the monument stands.

The steam ship San Jacinto of the Mauldry line was damaged by fire today at Roach's shipyard in Chester Pa. to the extent of 4006 dollars while laid up for repairs.
