Del Norte Gibson expansion approved by Roswell City Council

Roswell City Council approved expanding the Gibson's Discount Center at Del Norte Shopping Center from 18,900 to 30,900 square feet. The plan includes a warehouse on the Cinema Theater site, two shop spaces, and Safeway remaining in place with future expansion potential.

Students tour stops hit Roswell and Carlsbad

A group of students touring the United States descended on Farr's Cafeteria and Broadmoor Shopping Center in Roswell at noon Tuesday. They planned to visit Carlsbad Caverns Tuesday afternoon and spend Tuesday night with Rotarians in Carlsbad and Artesia.

Courts may tap Bernalillo fund to cover deficit

State court administrator Larry Coughenour proposes using surplus funds to fix a $39,836 shortfall across districts. He notes $53,000 in overall surplus, largely in Bernalillo County Second Judicial District, while other districts face deficits: First $19,888 in Rio Arriba Santa Fe Los Alamos. Fifth $12,010 in Eddy Chaves Lea. Eighth $828 in McKinley San Juan. Twelfth $3,488 in Lincoln Otero. Legal viability of such transfers is unclear.

John N. Mitchell told the Senate Watergate committee that President Nixon will defend his good name and that a top Republican urged the President personally address the panel. Mitchell defended himself and Nixon, said Nixon won’t testify or hand over documents, and suggested a White House meeting to resolve evidence issues.

Five New Mexico Democrats will gather in Roswell for a public hearing on Friday to solicit statewide input on the Democratic national charter vice presidential selection and delegate allocation. 200 4-Hers to Meet in Roswell District Contest

More than 200 4-Hers leaders and parents from eight New Mexico counties will attend the all day District 4-H Contest at Goddard High School in Roswell. Participants include Chaves Lea Eddy Curry Lincoln De Baca Otero and Roosevelt counties with demonstrations clothing and livestock judging. The schedule runs 8 to noon for contests 1:30 to 3 for workshops and 3 for clothing revue and awards.

Martha Mitchell Again Skips Senate Watergate Hearing

Washington AP reports Martha Mitchell again did not appear as her husband John N. Mitchell testified before the Senate Watergate committee. He joked she urged him to stay home and praised Tuesday’s hearings, saying she had answers to questions.
