Senate approves Yucca Mountain waste site vote
The Senate voted 60 to 39 to override Nevada objections and push ahead with storing 77,000 tons of radioactive waste at Yucca Mountain Nevada, despite Nevada's protests and continued lawsuits. Supporters argue storage there is safer than transporting across 43 states. Opponents warn of terrorism risks and unresolved logistics.
