A nationwide heat wave shatters temperature records with little relief foreseen. Pittsburgh reports ten heat deaths this week and several Pennsylvania locations record additional fatalities amid severe crop damage and widespread distress.
In Dublin, a conference between Sinn Fein and Unionist leaders resumed as they seek a preliminary agreement ahead of the London talks. Great crowds gathered outside and heavy rain fell across plains east to the Texas line. Roads near Tatum and Lovington were clogged, halting travel for several days as Tom Calloway from Carlsbad attends to business.
Houston July 8 The Oil Weekly editor R L Dudley predicts renewed activity in the Texas Oklahoma and Kansas oil fields as oil prices rise. Mexico export tax curtails shipments prompting the rebound in American oil business. Dudley notes efforts to learn Tampico field conditions failed. Latest reports show about twenty five thousand unemployed.
Galveston, July 8. The port tops all others in the nation for grain and cotton exports in the just completed fiscal year ending June 30. Local notices urge caution while traveling due to unsafe mud chains and promote Hal Bros. Weed and Rid-O-Skid products. Dudrill Tire Co advertises vulcanizing services and tire casing repair.
The 1921 Roswell New Mexico bank statement for American National Bank shows total resources of 440 324 93 and a breakdown of assets including cash in vault deposits with Federal Reserve notes and securities. It lists capital stock surplus undivided profits and circulating notes outstanding with deposits and borrowings including government securities and bills payable.
New York July 8 The fate of the Munson liner Callao with sixty passengers aboard remains unknown after she departed Rio de Janeiro for New York on June 20. Riverfront gossip links the disappearance to a phantom pirate steamer sighted near Philadelphia. Onboard was Christian, son of the President's secretary, listed as a cadet officer.
State rangers have been detailed to investigate an explosion of a boiler on a Southern Pacific engine near Valentine in Jeff Davis County last night. The engineer was killed and the fireman seriously injured. Southern Pacific officials requested the inquiry fearing foul play.
Chicago July 8 Peggy Joyce a Fullies show girl was granted 1350 dollars a month temporary alimony by Judge Joseph Sabath. The court also allowed her 27500 dollars attorneys fees and 12500 dollars to gather evidence to fight her divorce suit.
Washington July 8. Serious damage is being done to spring wheat and the oats crops by hot dry weather the weather bureau announced today. No relief is in sight for the next thirty six hours according to the weather forecast.
In Corsicana Texas on July 7 J E Carroway night watchman at Corsicana Brick Co plant was found with a bullet wound in his back in the brick yard. Authorities seek to locate relatives as they investigate the mysterious death unable to explain motive or identify a suspect.
Mrs. W. F. Watson, a prominent Dallas vocalist, was killed and her eight year old daughter seriously injured when a car driven by her husband veered into a ditch in Grand Prairie Texas. The driver was identified as the former. Reverend Rudolph Caughey returns home tomorrow from the Martin cabin on the upper Ruidoso where he spent the week with family. An advertisement promotes Kelly-Springfield and Federal tires. Other notes include Mrs E M Cooper leaving for Carrizozo, and a milk delivery notice.
Mexico City reports the Tampico oil district remains on edge amid unemployment and unrest. The possible arrival of the U S gunboat Sacramento is seen as aggravating the situation, with officials noting any landed force would likely be unable to restore order.
Kansas on July 8 District Judge Loss jailed Alexander Howatt district president of the United Ming workers and August Dorethy district vice president for six months and fined five hundred dollars each for violating the Kansas industrial court law by calling a local strike.
Washington reports two Americans were killed by highway robbers in the Tampico district of Mexico. The American consul at Tampico sent word, but garbled cables prevented learning full details.
Mme. de Guise, the American who drank poison with her son George in a suicide pact, may recover in Paris as doctors report. The son died yesterday night.

A telegraph from Ft Worth signed by a “Good Democratic Friends” committe e demanded a secret probe of Klan operations in Ft Worth. It claimed positive information about lynching Vickers and tar and feathering Bennie Pinto three months earlier. The anonymous telegram led the governor to ignore the request.
The Roswell Advertising Club announces a noon meeting at the Gilkeson hotel on the topic Getting the Advertisement Seen. Harry White will present effective headlines, George R. Fletcher will illustrate teaser ads, and A S Trube will discuss why ads must impress.

Home from Berkeley two Bates siblings arriving by afternoon train from California where Modine studied at the state university. Miss Modine briefly stopped in Roswell with her parents Mr and Mrs R Le Bates while Wardie Bates continued to Carlsbad to join her parents Mr and Mrs W C Bates.
