A Roswell man Humberto 53 and Ismael Hernan 26 were arrested for DWI in Chaves County on July 4 with BrAC BAC readings .07 .06 and .08 respectively. A fourth suspect Shawn Michael Mhitt faced DWI minor alcohol related charges and resisting arrest. Marisen E Reed 27 was jailed July 5 for DWI and failing to maintain lane with BrAC BAC .15.

College to phase out smoking areas at San Juan campus
San Juan College in Farmington will phase out its seven smoking areas as it moves toward a tobacco-free campus by 2020. A task force of students and staff is compiling best practices and rules have been tightened since 2013 to reduce on campus smoking.

Youth volunteers to aid Roswell zoo projects during July visit
A group of 30 teenagers from Crossroads Tabernacle Church Fort Worth and El Paso will assist at Spring River Park and Zoo in Roswell July 8 9. They will stain fences paint signs clean walkways and work with zoo staff. The effort coincides with National Parks and Recreation Month and includes prayer with local churches.
