In Jefferson City Missouri on July 3 the Supreme Court overruled the transfer of the Mrs Bonito case. The fate of Mrs Maggie Myers now rests with Governor Folk. Myers and Frank Hottman, convicted of murdering a man’s husband, were recently sentenced to a period until September.
Chicago officials under Chief Sanitary Inspector Hendrickson probe numerous bakeshops after finding bread and meat tainted. Inspectors report rooms with ovens and pastry tables, and basement washing facilities improperly vented.
Miss Velma Perkins entertained at her North Hill residence with her visiting brother Herbert Perkins. Guests included Sunday school class members led by Mrs. J Beck and others. Irene Int won the ladies prize in an advertisement contest, Bilkinsinger won the men’s prize, J Jones and J Beck claimed consolation prizes, refreshments followed.
Tomorrow the Salvation Army will host an outing for children and mothers who can attend. Ice cream soda cake pies sandwiches and games will be provided. Meet at the Salvation Army Hall at 8:30 with conveyances furnished.
Weather notes show varying rain with scattered showers in the region. Carlsbad reported a good shower while Hagerman saw none. Tezos logged heavy rainfall and Eli north of here recorded a likely heavy influx.
The Roswell government land office reports vigorous June business with 187 homestead claims filed and 20 desert claims filed. Final proofs include eight homesteads and five desert claims. Committed homesteads total 18 and mining land claims two, with substantial other unsummarized work. An annual fiscal report will appear in the Record shortly.
Roswell business leaders organize The Roosevelt County Telephone Company and take over exchanges at Portales Texico and the Elida Portales line. The firm plans toll lines and connections along the Belen Cut-off with re building of old lines and new construction. W O Oldham and W E Lindsay of Portales join J C Norris B D Oldham A L Breeding and B T Massey of Texico backing a new enterprise with strong capital and business capacity.
In Warsaw Russia Poland on July 3 terrorists pressed attacks on police. Before noon two sergeants were shot and killed in the streets as two assailants escaped.
Herbert W Perkins, visiting his parents here, departed today for Monday Texas to take a job as agent and operator at a new town on the Wichita Valley railroad.
J B Reeves of the northwest part of town hosts his mother Mrs Reeves from Canyon City Texas and sister Mrs Alexander from Mexico City Mex They arrived last night and will stay about ten days.
Rev. Mr. Brewer left yesterday by automobile for his home in Phoenix Arizona after spending several days in the Valley.
First National Bank files suit in district court to recover 102.72 on a note from F. W. Rankin. Attorney for plaintiff is Hon. G. A Richardson.

St Petersburg notes the agrarian bill approved by the government promises to distribute arable European Russia land to landless peasants. It outlines state purchases, favorable terms, and restrictions on non peasant buyers, plus aiding emigrants to Siberia and Central Asia. It argues universal land distribution is a fallacy.
Cholera of a virulent type has broken out among Manila natives and surrounding provinces. Twenty-one new cases and sixteen deaths were reported today in Manila. An American, Chas Sheehan, died. Provinces report deaths among cases. Officials deem the situation serious but not leading to a large epidemic.

A fire today completely destroyed St Michael's Church in Hamburg. The 426 foot tower collapsed, damaging neighboring homes that caught fire. Four workers involved in the church work were killed.

Local Elks show growing interest in the national reunion in Denver this month. A special car for their use will include every convenience and luxury and each Elk who travels is assured a good time. Only a few berths remain unclaimed and new reservations are made daily.
A premature blast in a Keystone mine, Bluefield district, West Virginia, last night killed three men outright and left several workers missing. Rescue efforts continue as officials assess the scene and danger.

Charles Woolridge departed last night for Pecos to join his wife and daughter who are in Abilene Texas. Mrs A G McElhinney left this afternoon for Lake Arthur for a week. Blue print maps of the Roswell oil fields are on display at Carlt er & Bell's Office.
The Roswell School Board met with City Clerk Fred J. Beck and selected J. H. Vaughn as eighth grade instructor at Central pending a physical, with Bertha Dysert as a potential fallback. Alda Smith was elected at sixty dollars per month, and Eula Shaver was named as supply teacher.
Copy of El Progreso, Nueva Casas Grandes Mexico, notes that Dr E H Skipwith has opened a general practice there. The Roswell pioneer physician is now in Mexico and his move removes one of Roswell’s old landmarks. He has within the past two years become a prominent local figure.

The Sara toga Limited on the Delaware and Hudson River railroad derailed at an open switch in Ballston New York today. Four cars overturned but no passengers were killed or seriously injured.
Indiana Attorney General under Governor Hanley filed suits to revoke the charters of French Lick Springs Hotel and Baden Springs Hotel Co for permitting gambling on property. The French Lick operation lists Thomas Taggart as president, a Democratic National Committee leader.
Edward Page Gaston of Chicago testified before a House of Lords committee on juvenile smoking calling the American cigarette the worst article sent to Great Britain. He compared it unfavorably with Chicago tinned meat and warned lawmakers about possible bribery by the American tobacco trust to block friendly legislation.
A tornado at West, twenty miles north of Waco, Texas, blew down a score of residences last night. Mrs. Mary Alien was badly injured and a man named Adams fractured his arm. The Adams family were hurled about a hundred feet.
The will of James H Farmer was filed for probate today. He leaves $750 to each of his five children from life insurance. Any remaining insurance money and all real estate go to widow Margaret E Farmer unless she remarries, in which case property reverts to the children. Widow named executrix without bond.
Kansas City stockyards report July 2 with 9,000 cattle and 6,000 sheep receipts. Native and southern cattle mostly quoted in the 2.00 to 6.50 range, western fed stockers and steers around 3.75 to 5.30, cows and heifers 2.00 to 5.50. Sheep led by muttons 5.00 to 6.25 and lambs 6.75 to 7.85, range wethers 5.25 to 6.25, fed ewes 4.75 to 5.60.
The Roswell City Band members performed in Carlsbad last night for the race meeting with Captain Jack Fletcher directing. The lineup included Verdi Croft, Elmer Denning, Hayden Croft, Walter Moir, Charles Norvell, Joe Deker, Cy Leland, Mr. Smock, Stanley Norvell and the bass drum section.
