Supreme Court under Nixon appointees curbs activism
The 1972 73 term marked the impact of Burger Blackmun Powell and Rehnquist on shaping a less activist court. The four combined in most cases with conservatives forming majorities while liberal justices were isolated on key issues including one man one vote and women rights. The term also saw limits on criminal defense rights and obscenity standards, while abortion and school aid disputes foreshadowed future conflicts as cases from Richmond and Detroit awaited.
