Artesia Man Pays Top Price Here for Champion Hereford

John Fanning of Artesia paid the top price of 1325 for the grand champion bull LA Proud Prince 17th bred by Herbert F Lowrey Roswell at the 23rd annual sale of the Eastern New Mexico Hereford Association at the Eastern New Mexico State Fair sales pavilion. He also bought the Reserve Champion bull BR Prince Larry for 535 while about 70 Hereford bulls averaged 438 86 and nine heifers opened at 350 with champion female Miss Dan Domino 4th bred by Crockett Brothers of Hope selling for 415.

Finalists Named For Junior Chamber Award for Service

The United States Weather Bureau lists readings from 2 am yesterday to 11 pm yesterday with highs of 55 and lows of 37. Precipitation reports show trace in 24 hours ending 11 pm yesterday and month to date 0.21 inches. Sunrise at 6:56, sunset at 5:27. Forecast callers expect clouds clearing by noon and warmer highs near 58 with colder night lows around 24.

Air Force trainer missing on flight from Lubbock to El Paso

A search was under way in southeast New Mexico for an Air Force trainer reported missing on a flight from Lubbock to El Paso. The search focused on the Hobbs Lovington and Kermit Seminole areas as Reese AFB officials investigated the report.

Mrs Herring Seeks to Retain Chaves County Clerk Post

Mrs. Dorothy D. Herring seeks the Democratic nomination for Chaves County clerk in the May 4 primary. She has held the office since December 19 1952 when appointed to fill the vacancy after Phyllis Chandler’s resignation. The challenge by H L Rives Jr was upheld by a district judge and the state supreme court. If elected she will continue efforts to serve as county clerk.

Rosenberg Lawyer Emanuel Bloch Found Dead at 52

Emanuel H. Bloch, longtime attorney for Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, was found dead in his West 16th Street apartment bathtub. Police attributed death to natural causes and a Brooklyn friend, Gloria Agrinof, located the body.

Police Chief Clarifies Speed Limits On City Streets

Police Chief Tommy Thompson says speed limit signs in parts of West Second, including zones of 25 30 35 and 50 mph, apply only to those areas. He warns drivers that Roswell’s normal speed is 25 mph, 20 mph downtown, and 15 mph in school and hospital zones.
