PILT funds may return to Chaves County in new farm bill

Chaves County could receive about 2.8 million dollars annually from PILT to offset property tax losses on federal lands. The farm bill, worth about 100 billion dollars a year in spending, includes PILT renewal for Western states and crop program provisions. Senator Tom Udall announced PILT renewal, expressing relief for New Mexico counties and rural services. County commissioner James Duffey called the news very good as PILT funding would be maintained.
