Senate committee endorses Johnson medical marijuana proposal
The Senate Public Affairs Committee unanimously backed Gov Gary Johnson's plan to legalize medical marijuana, sending it to the Judiciary Committee. The bill mirrors last year's measure, creating a Health Department program to allocate marijuana to qualified patients with illnesses such as cancer AIDS and glaucoma while banning patient cultivation. Law enforcement officials opposed the plan citing federal law, and Health Department officials noted unresolved legal questions about state agency liability.
