The 23rd annual Southeastern New Mexico Hereford Association show and sale is set for Thursday and Friday at 1 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. at the Eastern New Mexico State Fair Grounds. Eisenhower outlines eight point housing program

President Eisenhower sent Congress an eight point plan to revamp federal housing laws aiming for good housing in good neighborhoods for all. He urged four more years of public housing, 140000 new units, and private enterprise incentives with underwritten long term mortgages and lower down payments for those displaced by slum clearance.

Mexican immigration chief cites wage parity at border

At Mexicali the chief of the Mexican immigration department urged equal pay and working conditions for Mexican workers, while Lopez-Lira said soldiers assist in enforcing the no crossing rule for farm laborers. A clash occurred between laborers seeking entry and border guards, with 124 workers crossing Saturday and 39 entering Sunday as a new plan allowing entry without formal Mexican contracts faces opposition.

El Paso Locals Reject Seceding From Mine Union

Two El Paso locals of the International Union of Mine Mill and Smelter Workers voted to stay with Mine Mill and ousted leaders behind a secession bid. Local 509 defeated affiliating with CIO by 129 to 117 after a three hour meeting of ASARCO employees. Local 501 also voted to remain, citing anti labor attacks and Red domination charges. The vote drew security presence and a bishop urged referendum for broader member input.
