Washington January 25 The president clarified no new anti trust crusade is planned and no department will be created to pursue indiscriminate prosecutions The aim is prosecutions of corporations violating laws not attacks on corporations themselves
Firemen and residents witnessed a second comet over Roswell between 2:00 and 2:30 AM. Chief Charles Whiteman described a tall, bright object with a long bushy tail about forty feet long, brighter and larger than the earlier western comet and rivaling Halley’s comet in perceived brightness.
Boston, Jan. 25. Copper stocks slid sharply with Calumet and Arizona dropping to sixty three, down over thirty since Friday. Lake copper fell from ninety four Friday to seventy four today after a brief sell at that level.
Madame Marcella Sembrich and her company drew a near full Armory audience in Roswell for the Apollo Club concert, part of the 1909-10 series. The crowd's warm reception and long applause reflected strong musical enthusiasm and favorable reviews for the performance.
The Sembrich concert drew many visitors to Roswell with regular trains delivering passengers from Amarillo and a southbound special arriving at 6 50. Carlsbad and Artesia furnished most out of town attendants including Jas D Whelan Miss Carrie Carroll and many others. Some remained to visit relatives while most returned home last night or this morning. The special train departed south at 11:30 and the company north at twelve.

The eastbound New York Central Twentieth Century Limited derailed after jumping a switch near Johnsville, Utica, with the engine overturning a quarter mile and sliding 300 yards. Washington January 25 Governor Sloan of Arizona had an extended talk with the President about statehood for Arizona and New Mexico. The President pledged best efforts to push a separate statehood bill this session. The timing of when the bill would take effect remains to be determined. A fortifications appropriation bill carrying five million eight hundred seventeen thousand dollars passed the Senate today.
Night engineer at the waterworks plant spotted a blaze in a former Lemp Brewing beer storage house at East Second Street and Grand Avenue near the railroad crossing. The building burned with walls falling as firemen arrived. two railroad cars nearby were also damaged, one coal car with a burned side. Insurance on the building is about 500 dollars. Cause unknown but suspected to be from passing trains. The structure had long been vacant.
Pueblo Colorado January 25 two train men were killed and three badly injured when a Denver Rio Grande freight locomotive exploded near Laveta. The blast hurled the men from the engine into a corn field and tore up the track for about a hundred yards.
