Former saloon keeper becomes Texas pastor in Baylor studies

Imer Kelly once tended bar on Main Street and owned a saloon with his father. He quit in 1912, studied at Rusk and Bryan Baptist academies, and now preaches at Trinity Baptist Church. He is a junior at Baylor University and pastors Bosqueville and Erath Baptist churches. He was greeted by admirers after a sermon.

Nicolai Lenin Dies Near Moscow in 1923

Nicolai Lenin, leader of the Russian Soviet government, died Monday evening at a village near Moscow after months of illness and recent reports of improvement. Funeral set for Saturday. Official note says the Soviet will carry out Lenin's will in line with workers and peasants. Born April 19, 1880. Two assassination attempts were made during his rule.

Demonstration Train to Tour New Mexico in February

The Santa Fe Railway and New Mexico Agricultural College approve a Cow Low and Ken Demonstration Train tour February through New Mexico. It begins February 11 at La Tuna and ends February 25 at Raton, covering about one thousand miles with fifty stops. The train arrives Roswell February 16 at 3 p.m. local time. The goal is to promote saver farming with diversified programs including milk cows hogs and poultry. A three car exhibit will travel with strong college staff speakers. Schoolchildren receive special attention at each stop.

Bootlegger Fined $200 for Liquor Transport

W L Jaggard received a $200 fine and costs after pleading guilty to transporting and possessing intoxicating liquor. Judges Fletcher and Pletcher oversaw the case, with police Ru Donahoo and WM Crow making the arrest. Jaggard and Copzlin face jail while unable to pay bond or fines.
