Barragan Receives 20 to 50 Year State Prison Term
Emilio Barragan pleaded guilty to second degree murder before Judge Charles Rh. Brice. He was sentenced to not less than 20 years and not more than 50 years in the state penitentiary at Santa Fe and will be taken there immediately by Sheriff Peck. The killing of Louis Ramirez occurred near the Tires place on South Main after an argument over a shared acquaintance. Witnesses testified Ramirez stepped into the street where Barragan fired twice, killing Ramirez instantly. Barragan had been a sheep herder for the Jones brothers and was previously bound over on first degree murder charges.
