British relief expedition reports Lincoln Ellsworth and Herbert Hollick-Kenyon, long missing in the Antarctic, have been rescued and are alive in the Little America region. The news comes as another breakthrough in Arctic exploration.
Lincoln Ellsworth and Herbert Hollick-Kenyon were located in Little America after a dangerous Antarctic flight from Dundee Island. A seven word message confirmed both men are alive and well, ending weeks of anxiety. Mrs Hollick-Kenyon expressed relief, while officials praised enterprise and forethought. In Washington the Senate opened debate on the bonus payment bill, with Senator Harrison arguing it will become law, and Ickes apologizing for a misstatement about Hoover era rulings.
Herbert Hoover pressed restoring home markets and boosting farm machinery to ease the farm crisis. He urged retiring submarginal acreage, cooperative marketing, and stronger farm credit, saying reforms could be run by land grant colleges and farmers themselves within the constitution. Radio cut ended the talk prematurely. CBS blamed schedule constraints.
New Mexico officers attend a Group School session at the Chamber of Commerce at 7 pm under the 410th Infantry. James M H Callender, captain of the New Mexico Camp Perry team, will discuss the government sponsored rifle matches held last summer at Camp Perry Ohio. A Fort Riley life film will be shown and officers present earn two hours credit.

Dun and Bradstreet reports a broad pickup in business across regions with wholesale distribution leading gains as retailers replenish spring stock. New England, Middle West, Northwest show higher sales while Pacific Coast and parts of the South soften. Woolen goods unfilled orders amount to about 52 million yards, enough to sustain current mill activity for 13 weeks.
President Roosevelt expressed strong confidence that the soil erosion and conservation plan would fulfill the aims of the abandoned AAA and foster broad agricultural development. He indicated possible new taxes but did not discuss them, and noted county agents would help implement the program while stressing erosion as loss of soil and chemicals.
B M Woods of Berkeley California new chairman of district 10 of the national resources committee visited Santa Fe. The state planning board met for two days to brief Woods and explain the New Mexico setup, according to chairman Frank Vesely.

W F Skinner, 50, was instantly killed on Highway 60 six miles west of Mountainair New Mexico when struck by a car driven by J A Reynolds a homesteader from the Raye area Reynolds said a dust storm blinded him and he didn t see Skinner until it was too late An inquest was set for late today Skinner is survived by a daughter Mrs M A Ballington
Hollywood reports Irving Berlin will be feted Monday night by about 150 tunesmiths film executives and singers for his 25th anniversary as a songwriter. Berlin recalls his first hit Alexander Ragtime Band written in January 1911 and pins January 20 as around the time he struggled with it.

Salt Lake City January 17 AP The University of Utah will seek federal funding to dig a mine on campus. Dr. Thomas C Adams says six thousand dollars will be requested from the national youth administration to sink two shafts 50 to 70 feet deep and to dig connecting tunnels and drifts.
The Italian command in Ethiopia says a southern battle ended in complete victory with Ras Desta Demtu’s forces fleeing toward the northwest. Ethiopian officials dispute a major fight occurred given Ras Desta’s scattered positions. An Italian crew's plane interned near the Sudan frontier and Britain reports British troops reaching Alexandria en route to Matruh.
Tokyo says Japan must strengthen Manchukuo garrison as Soviet power grows in Far East Siberia. Moscow coverage reports Budyonny warns against aggression while flagging perceived Japanese and German chemical warfare prep.
On January 10 artesian gauges near Artesia and Orchard Park show water levels higher than a year earlier by 6.73 and 2.99 feet respectively. Artesia readings: 5.27 feet below surface in 1936 vs 12 feet in 1935. Orchard Park: 16.98 feet below in 1936 vs 19.97 feet below in 1935. Rise linked to plugging of wells amid long dry spell.
The Commercial Club of West Las Vegas purchased fourteen city blocks along the Gallinas river from Dr. George N. Fleming. Ilario Rubio announced plans for a swimming pool tennis courts and a baseball diamond with labor provided by the National Youth Administration.
Everett Baggs of Dalhart Texas received a sentence of five to six years in the New Mexico state prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter. He was the driver of a car that collided with a truck near Newkirk last Friday, killing Ray W. Felty of Clovis, a WPA worker on the Conchas dam.
Hagerman officers jailed Adolfo Gomez at Chaves county jail after his car collided with a truck on the highway near the Greenfield Gin. No injuries were reported. He faces a drunken driving charge. A Boy Scout fundraising drive remains about $800 short of its $2500 goal, and a follow up committee will meet next Tuesday to push toward the quota.
Manuel Grikabal 57 collapsed and died while working on a pump at the Grenades residence in Las Cruces. Death attributed to heart attack. In Logan Utah Wilford Porter 71 and Mary Virginia Hinkinson 80 met during church work in the Latter Day Saints Temple and obtained a marriage license the next day after deciding to pool their interests.
Farley Iowa districts plan to reopen Monday after a weeklong closure caused by scarlet fever exposure. Several teachers were exposed while living in a home where two children contracted the disease, and state law requires a one week return after contact.
