Neighbors cry foul in dog attack dispute with prominent leader
Dorothy Hellums and her husband Billy face charges after two of their dogs killed livestock in the 1400 block of East Berren do Road. A sheriff’s deputy reported the incident as neighbors say it is part of a recurring dispute over dogs running at large. Jeff Martin, whose chickens were killed, reported the dogs inside a coop and that one turkey was critically injured. Martin’s son shot the dogs, and authorities were alerted. The Hellums reportedly faced a prior animal-control call on April 14, 2010, for similar livestock losses.
