King seeks 363 million general fund for New Mexico

Gov. Bruce King proposed a general fund appropriation of 363.12 million to run state government in the coming fiscal year, an 11.8 percent rise from the current 324.22 million. The executive budget, released as the 1974 legislature began a 30 day session, also includes 30.1 million in additional spending this year and next, with major capital outlay for public schools and state facilities.

Brainerd Declines To Seek Re election As Roswell Mayor

Roswell mayor William F Brainerd will not seek another term in March elections saying six years is long enough He will remain active in civic duties including the Eastern New Mexico University Board of Regents and the Border Commission The RIAC and retiree influx helped Roswell's economy during his tenure and several council members have announced plans regarding reelection, while others remain undecided.

City officials expect airport terminal plans unaffected by jet service halt

Roswell officials say Texas International Airlines will suspend jet service temporarily from Jan 15 due to energy and economic factors. City manager Owen expects no impact on terminal planning and a spring resume, with terminal completion targeted for January 1975 and $480,000 in EDA funds support. Airport committee notes flight cutback should even out as loading rises.

A large ceremony dedicated the Poe Corn Memorial Center as part of Poe Corn Park in Roswell. Tunisia delays nationwide referendum on union with Libya

The Tunisian government ruled out a nationwide referendum on a union with Libya until the Tunisian constitution is revised, a process expected to take months. Montoya Named Southeast Area Supervisor For New Mexico Game and Fish

William O. Bill Montoya named new area supervisor for the southeast region based in Roswell. He replaces Jim Yarbrough who becomes northeast area supervisor. Montoya, a Las Cruces native and seven year department veteran, holds a wildlife science degree from New Mexico State University.

Kissinger outlines Egypts counterproposal on Suez disengagement

Secretary of State Kissinger reported Egypt's counterproposals for thinning forces east of the Suez Canal in exchange for Israeli withdrawal. He met with Yigal Allon Abba Eban and Moshe Dayan and said differences were narrowing. Eban said the talks were useful and detailed.
