Miss Hatley Employed by Realty Firm

Cindy Hatley a senior at Goddard High School has been hired by Empire Realty as a part time office employee. She participates in the cooperative office education program, takes four morning classes and works afternoons. She trains in shorthand typing and filing and will earn one full credit for office work in the community. She plans to attend ENMAR after graduation.

The Dec 1 draft lottery set birth dates that place 13 Roswell High senior boys in the draft and age 19 by year end. ROTC Boys Go to Cannon

Goddard High ROTC cadets visited Cannon United States Air Force Base under Colonel Frank Harper. They toured the base facilities and observed the F-11 fighter bomber while buses carried the group. The visit showcased Air Force operations and training.

Youth Action Council Plans Washington Trip with New York Stop

Kathy Kruse reports the Youth Action Council members have saved funds and organized activities to finance a Washington D C educational trip with a New York side visit set for March 11 22 1970. They sold 100 pounds of pecans and run a weekly skating program at the Chaves County Memorial Youth Center, earning hours toward the trip.

Wingate Group to Visit ENMU Portales

Thirteen Ft. Wingate High School seniors with two counselors will visit Eastern New Mexico University Portales the 16th and 17th. They will be welcomed by Wauneka Indian Club members and invited to an informal party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Place, audio visual librarian and Indian club adviser.

Wool event fifth place captures two Goddard entrants at state

Susie Harty, a Goddard junior, placed fifth in the Make It Yourself With Wool contest at Pueblo Auditorium on December 10 with a red, white, and blue culotte and jacket ensemble. She earned a yard and a fourth of pink 100 percent wool. Goddard senior Donna Garren also competed at state after district success with a pants suit and long coat in burnt orange beige plaid. Kathy Savage and Emily Cauhape also took part in the contest.

Mrs Betty King Joins Sierra Middle School Staff

Betty King joins Sierra Middle School as sixth grade Social Studies and seventh grade Geography and English teacher. A Roswell native and TCU alum, she has taught in Fort Worth Las Cruces and Roswell, and spent six months in Europe gathering teaching materials and cultural artifacts. She is married to John King KBIM TV operations manager and has two daughters.

Roswell Daily Record Tour Teaches Students Big-Scale Paper Work

On December 17 1969 twenty students from Yucca Middle School visited Roswell Daily Record to learn newsroom operations guided by Mr Geary. They viewed high profile historic mats and learned about photo wires engraving metal photolathe press speed 20000 papers per hour carload paper rolls and heavy stock. One souvenir paper given to each student.

Baton Work Slated At YMCA Roswell

Registrations for the winter Baton lessons at the Roswell Family YMCA open soon. Miss Becky Lee will teach an eight week course for beginners and intermediate students starting Monday Jan 18. Sessions run Mondays and Wednesdays 4 to 5 pm for beginners and 5 to 6 pm for intermediate. Fees are 15 dollars for nonmembers and 5 dollars for YMCA members. The program combines baton skills with running and exercise routines to boost fitness and coordination. A progressive flag and fire baton track follows for qualified students seeking advancement.

Mrs McMillan New English Teacher at RHS

Kathleen McMillan a sophomore English teacher joins Roswell High School after teaching in Lordsburg. Born in Watertown South Dakota she studied English at South Dakota State University and now lives in Roswell with her husband a PE instructor at NMMI and their two young sons. The report notes US feed grain exports totaling about 1 billion dollars annually.

15 Scooter Boards Boost El Capitan P E Classes

El Capitan P E instructor Miss Nancy Spill built 15 scooter boards during Christmas using 4 by 8 foot plywood, crafted with help from Roswell High Woodworking Class. The boards, affixed with three hard rubber casters, support 330 students and indoor outdoor use, funded by the P T A, to improve muscle coordination and balance during a 30 minute period.
