A 60 000 acre Dillingham Ranch in southeast Colorado sold for 1 383 800. The Las Animas County clerk's office records show buyers as a new local rancher farmer consortium. The Dillingham family of Enid Oklahoma had owned the property for 16 years.

Roswell Men Buy Guadalupe Mountain Ranches for 655000

Two Roswell men A S and J B Patterson purchased 225 sections of Guadalupe Mountain ranches from National Livestock Co for 655000. Judge Kermit Nash of Hobbs ordered the land sold after a dissolution petition by John R Joyce and others, with Joyce and associates later held in contempt for seeking a restraining order.

Deprived Students Seek Federal Education Funds in Roswell Chaves County

The Chaves County School system files a 56 203 request with the State Department of Education for federal aid to educate 240 deprived children across six schools. Roswell aims for 221 000 to fund an Ungraded Primary Program with remedial reading audio visual tools and salaries for 11 new teachers. The plan includes Saturday vocational guidance a summer remedial program medical dental care counseling and extended summer operations with six classes at Mountain View and Berrendo Junior High five at East Grand Plains. The budget covers instruction health food service administration and equipment purchases with a total end date of August 31.

Roswell Chamber Banquet Seeks Reservations

The Roswell Chamber of Commerce will host a Saturday banquet at 7 p.m. in the New Mexico Military Institute Mess Hall. Frank C. Di Luzio of Kingston, Md., director of the Office of Saline Water, outlines regional water topics and desalination plant roles. Reservations are $5 per couple.

Break Out Nets $1 000 at Primm Drug

About $1,000 in cash was stolen from Primm Drug at 1001 W Second in a break out theft. Police believe the thief hid inside the store then exited after hours, breaking a north door glass at 3:55 a.m. The exterior door glass was found outside, and the office door was forced. A preliminary inventory is underway to check for missing drugs or merchandise.

Antipoverty Reform Urged by Lawmakers Over Program Funds

Washington AP reported the House Labor Committee chair and Republican members urged a thorough review of the 1.5 billion antipoverty program. Rep. Adam Clayton Powell Jr. proposed scrapping cultural and social programs to focus on job training and employment, while Rep. William Ayres called for bipartisan probes, an independent audit of 2.3 billion in OEO funds, and a management survey amid alleged misuse concerns.

Parole Denied for Albuquerque Man in 1962 Slaying

Robert Hardy of Albuquerque, serving a 110 year manslaughter term for killing his step-daughter in 1962, had parole denied by the New Mexico Board of Probation and Parole. He faced murder charges later reduced to manslaughter and holds a 5 to 20 year habitual criminal sentence.
