State engineer Tom McClure presided at a city hall hearing today addressing protests by the Bureau of Reclamation over alleged illegal water pumping from the Pecos river south of Dexter. The session was ongoing this afternoon.
A Fort Bliss private paid 5 to tailor O D trousers with English drapes. At inspection a tough sergeant ordered the drapes removed and standard O D pants issued, costing 8.62 more.

Four eastern New Mexico 20 30 clubs will host the mid winter convention of the Southwestern 20 30 District at Ruidoso on January 24 25. Harvey Whitehill district governor announced plans for winter sports and a dinner dance under Ranny Middleton Carlsbad deputy governor. Border Patrolmen in El Paso assert they are superior trackers to dogs. Immig ration director Grover Wilmoth states dogs were not used at Fort Stanton to pursue escaped German internees, contradicting reports of dog tracking. He notes patrolmen can follow trails indefinitely and have recaptured nine Columbus crew members across a 24 hour span. Mounted patrolmen aided in locating the sailors.
State and county agricultural adjustment administration committees press to adapt farming to wartime needs. Art Cummings, AAA official, calls it the principal means to shift from wheat and cotton to milk eggs pork canning vegetables and beef. Conference runs to Wednesday with A D Wooster presiding and George Weaver addressing.
