French premier to send 1000 troops to New Caledonia

In Paris on Saturday Laurent Fabius announced immediate deployment of 1000 additional troops to New Caledonia to quell two days of rioting that left three dead and dozens injured. In Roswell, the Coyotes defeated Hobbs 85-66 in District 4AAAA action Friday night as coach Randy Lyons commented on recovery time. Authorities suspect five inmates who escaped from a Los Lunas prison, aided by a parolee, may have received help from another former prisoner.

Jet crashes near Hagerman with pilot still missing

A military training jet crashed in southeast New Mexico near Hagerman. Rescue teams searched three miles north of New Mexico 31 as weather hampered efforts while authorities sought 1st Lt. Michael S. Wigand, 26, of Warminster PA. A Cannon AFB disaster force and a C 130 were deployed to locate a beacon and determine if a body was present.

Winter storm on its way out in New Mexico

A winter storm moving across New Mexico is set to loosen its grip with partly cloudy skies and warmer temperatures by Monday. Roswell may see more snow overnight, with a high of 30 and a low of 15 today, as snow showers diminish tonight. The system dumped up to 4 inches in northern mountains and 1 to 2 inches in higher elevations and the south. A military jet crash in southeast New Mexico delayed by snow and wind left Lt. Michael S. Wigand missing, wreckage found east of Hagerman, while a separate U.S. 70 crash in Lincoln County killed Carlsbad resident Andrew Lester Crowson and injured Lorri Crowen.

Man Found Shot Near Overturned Pickup West of Los Lunas

Valencia County sheriff's officers investigated the death of a 24 year old Hispanic man found Friday near an overturned pickup on New Mexico 6, about 10 miles west of Los Lunas. The body was sent to the Medical Examiner in Albuquerque for autopsy. no arrests reported.

Bread-baker freed from prison by village petition

In Vendoeuvre France baker Marc Fricaud 44 spent a week in jail for unpaid alimony. After 500 villagers petitioned the court he was released for a limited period to resume bread rounds. He will finish his sentence on Thursdays and Sundays when the shop is closed.

Lee Returns to Capitol in Santa Fe for 60 Day Session

Robert R. Lee, Daily Record political reporter, will cover the New Mexico State Legislature as it convenes in Santa Fe for a 60 day session. He will focus on legislative delegations from Chaves, Eddy and Lincoln counties. Lee will transmit his stories via a battery powered portable computer from any telephone. Beagles complaint on Roswell mall license rejected

The Construction Industries Advisory Council rejected Roswell contractor Virgil Beagles's license complaint against Roswell Mall Inc. over an allegedly illegal construction license for a $13 million Roswell shopping center. The nine member panel, after hearings, found no improper influence by the governor's office and reported no lobbying by committee members.
