A 16 year old at a rural Taft high school fired a shotgun wounding one student, shooting at another, and missing a second target before a teacher and staff member convinced him to surrender. The incident disrupted the school day and prompted a police response from local authorities.

The plan mirrors a 233 million dollar increase favored by the Legislative Finance Committee for schools, higher education and general government, but faces likely Democratic gov opposition on tax cuts and merit pay for educators.
