Statehood Bill to Taft for New Mexico and Arizona

Washington, Jan. 11. Representative Hamilton of Michigan, chairman of the House Committee on Territories, submitted to the President a draft bill granting separate statehood for New Mexico and Arizona. The bill follows Taft’s recommendation for separate elections to adopt a constitution and elect state officers. The President stated he did not desire another Oklahoma incident and approved the bill. Hamilton hopes statehood will be granted in the last two territories this session of Congress.

Army Bill Passed by House with Higher Estimate

Washington Jan 11 The army bill for 1911 passed the House by 188 to 106 and carries an appropriation of 95 200 000. Opposition centered on the department estimates being exceeded.

Kreisler Draws Largest Apollo Club Crowd At Armory

Fritz Kreisler's concert at the Armory drew an audience of about six to seven hundred, the largest crowd yet for the Apollo Club winter series. The Armory was two thirds full as Kreisler delighted the crowd with his selections, especially the simpler pieces. Haddon Squire accompanied at the piano.
