Flag to Arizona Tucson

Arizona expects to receive back Monday the state flag carried by astronaut Frank Borman during the Gemini 7 flight. Governor Sam Goddard gave the flag to Borman, and a Tucson Chamber spokesman says he will return it at a public reception. Polynesia Aground Off Bahamas With 47 Aboard

The Polynesia, a 135 foot windjammer from Miami's Windjammer Cruises, ran aground near the Bahamas with 47 aboard. Coast Guard helicopters airlifted 14 to safety while others could be rescued by civilian boats if they chose to leave. The vessel reported no immediate danger amid mild seas.

State Allocates 15 Million for School Centers

The Office of Education approved about 15 million dollars for 216 educational centers and services under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965. Funds will support public and private schools, preschoolers, adults, handicapped children, and out of school youths. Final project allocations to be set after local negotiations. In New Mexico Santa Fe the cooperative project with the Santa Fe Board of Education will provide supplemental services to several area schools.

Kenneth A. Eakens rancher and farmer files as a candidate for district director of the Roswell Artesian Conservancy District. The election is Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Roswell Central Fire Station. Eakens and Arnold Bunte vie for District 2 seat, H C Berry of Dexter is unopposed in District 3.

Brutal Slayer Sought in Texas

Police search for leads in the slaying of 52 year old Mountain View Arkansas woman Freda Holmes in El Paso. Holmes was stabbed in her sister Thelma C. McWood’s apartment while McWood worked at White Sands Missile Range. A $1,700 bracelet was reported missing and a man fled after the door opened suddenly screeching.
