Roswell Fire Chief Chrisman retires after 37 years of service

David Rue Chrisman who led Roswell's fire department for two decades retires at 90. The former banker and street car conductor moved from Mississippi to New Mexico in 1894 and became the city's first full time fire chief by 1924. A birthday party is planned with friends from Roswell and nearby towns, and cakes will honor his life with symbols of his three life periods.

Year round daylight time begins nationwide Sunday

Roswell Shootout Wounds Two. Suspect Charged

A Wednesday night shootout near Fifth and Main damaged a window at 103 E Fifth and potentially hit a Yellow Cab dispatcher who was not present. Roswell Police Lt. Berry and Arthur Perez were wounded. Roswell Drug Raid Nabs 21 Suspects In Morning Sweep

Fourteen adults and seven juveniles were arrested at 6:30 a.m. on drug violations after a four month Roswell and Chaves County investigation. Officials said arrests include Tony Ray Carter and John W. Bowers on morphine charges, Randall Massey and Geraldine Massey on hashish, with bonds from 2,000 to 22,000. Juvenile cases to be handled in children’s court.
