Chicago Jan 3 Judge Landis in U S District Court overruled the demurrers to eight indictments against the Standard Oil Company for accepting rebates from railroads. Demurrers were sustained on two other indictments due to technical defects in the charges.
George Gould head of the Gould railway system arrived in Pittsburg and dismissed fears of an impending industrial crisis. He stated that U S business conditions are very encouraging and that railways will likely surpass their 1906 volume this year.

Milton G. Purdy opened hearings in San Antonio on the Brownsville riot involving the 25th Infantry last August. Witnesses were examined but kept secret. In Topeka a black man shot Captain Macklin at Ft Reno was released as the wrong suspect, with authorities seeking the actual shooter.
New Mexican reports attorney Neil B Field filed a motion for a rehearing in the Territorial Supreme Court on Hubbell versus Armijo cases decided in the recent special session. Rehearing will be argued January 8 in Santa Fe with Perfecto Armijo and Justo Armijo serving as sheriff and treasurer of Bernalillo County. The legal battle may proceed to the U S Supreme Court.

Last night at nine o clock a ceremony was held at Rev Henry F Vermillion s home with only the bride s brother in law and sister present Mrs Charles G Couch. The groom arrived from DuQuoin two months ago and has been visiting the bride s parents. The bride once lived in DuQuoin and came with her father s family to Roswell from St Louis Missouri last August. They plan a mountain trip and may settle at the groom s uncle Talliaferro s home near White Oaks.
