In a joint session on February 28 former Governor Bradley Republican secured a 64 to 41 vote for the United States Senate after some Democrats broke ranks to support him. The tally was later verified as factions shifted to assure Bradley’s election.
A telegram from Ralph Crowell formerly at the Military Institute reports he passed mental tests for entry to West Point but did not meet physical requirements. In Denver on February 27 Alio was arraigned on a murder charge for the killing of Father Leo. Robert H. Widdicombe was appointed counsel as he had no lawyer. He will plead to the charge Saturday and a trial date will be set then for the Sarinale note case.
New York report states Thomas A Edison undergoes a second operation for eye ear nose and throat issues. A glasses fitting and contact with Dr Presley are noted and the public record lists a phone contact, 130.
Ison, who had a second operation for mastoiditis yesterday, spent a comfortable night. His physicians say his condition is self limited and improving, while Senator M'Creary pledges aid to Roswell.
Phoenix officials announce President Ripley has canceled orders to halt railroad construction affecting the Arizona and California line. Construction on the Parker Colorado River bridge and the Mojave desert segment toward Bagdad, California will be resumed. A four room frame cottage owned by Dr. Duckworth near East Bland street on South Hill was destroyed by fire this afternoon. Neighbors spotted the blaze as the family was downtown, and heat threatened Claude Dean's house about 300 feet away although firefighters stood ready to defend it. No belongings were saved from the Duckworth property or the Dean home.
Report from Laredo says the Larosita mine at Salinas near Musa Juiz Mexico suffered a deadly blast. Federal telegraph sources place fatalities between eighty and ninety. Monterey Steel Company owns the mine which employs around 950 workers, mainly Japanese and Mexicans, with the government in charge of the situation. In Teheran an assassination attempt was made on the Shah of Persia this afternoon. The Shah was unharmed but three riders accompanying him were shot. The attack occurred as the royal party rode through Teheran during the day.

A safe at the First State Bank in Clear Lake area was cracked early this morning. Thieves took about $2,000 in currency, causing $10,000 in damage. They escaped on a hand car. Mrs. W. A.
