Roswell 97-year-old man injured inspires help drive

Ignacio Sanchez 97 fell at home in Roswell breaking a hip and lay on the floor until a Meals on Wheels worker found him. JOY Center volunteers led by Joe Nunez Virginia Lucero and Sharon Padilla secured a donated house and started a drive for clothing utensils and goods as Sanchez recovers at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center with a new home planned for his return.

Secret FBI files kept on officials and Congress

Atty. Gen. Levi told Congress that J Edgar Hoover kept 164 secret file folders with derogatory material on public officials and 17 congressmen. He cited improper dissemination and political use of FBI information and said Director Kelley agrees no secret files should sit in the director's office.

In Washington the U S Railway Association denied Rock Island Railroad a 100 million loan to stave off bankruptcy. Stallings weighs court challenge over legislative service

Roswell Democrat Rep. Clayton Stallings says he may sue to challenge a 1973 attorney general ruling he is a state employee and may not serve in the state legislature while on leave from ENMUR. He favors consulting lawyers before acting and noted a bill to let state employees serve faces slim odds. Senate panel backs a constitutional amendment for private industrial loans with strict limits and a 25 year term.
