Mayfield Kentucky residents report Lassie the collie vanished after being taken to Houston by her owners Mr and Mrs H C Riley. The dog returned to Mayfield briefly before vanishing again leaving neighbors to care for her while she appeared frightened and lonely.
The U S Army revealed the supersonic Nike Hercules at White Sands proving ground as the new anti aircraft missile with atomic warhead potential. It will join service air batteries nationwide, promising swifter interceptions and greater range.
Joseph M. Montoya won the Democratic nomination for Congress on the first ballot at the 1,202-vote convention, securing 769 votes and a strong majority. The April 9 special election to fill Rep. A. M. Fernandez’s seat follows a long career in state government and a history of persistent political bids.

Voters weighed the 900000 dollar school bond as polling continued at Washington Avenue and Missouri Avenue Schools. At 9 15 a.m. counts showed 49 and 22 ballots. by 10 a.m. Washington stood 53 to 42 for Missouri. In the 1955 bond vote 451 voters participated with 425 for bonds and 26 against.
The Farming ton Daily Times of New Mexico earned third place in the Inland Daily Press Association awards for outstanding typography in Class A papers. It ranked behind Morris Alabama Herald and Greenville Michigan News, and ahead of Farmington.
